Overview

Periodontal disease is one of the most prevalent oral health conditions globally and stands as the second leading cause of tooth loss. Its effects extend beyond the oral cavity, with a profound impact on systemic health and overall quality of life. As populations age and patients present with increasingly complex medical histories and risk factors, the presentation and management of periodontal disease demand advanced knowledge and clinical expertise. This programme prepares clinicians to meet these challenges through a rigorous, evidence based approach.

Clinical skills

  • Acquire a deep understanding of periodontal disease pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management.
  • Apply theoretical knowledge in a simulated clinical setting before transitioning to supervised clinical care.
  • Gain confidence and competency under the direct supervision of expert faculty, ensuring delivery of care at a specialist level.
Beyond Clinical skills

In addition to comprehensive periodontic training, the programme develops and fosters the wider non-technical professional capabilities required of a Specialist, including:

  • Clinical research methodology and critical appraisal
  • Communication and patient interaction
  • Leadership and clinical/practice management

The curriculum is aligned with the GDC requirements, providing assurance that all key competencies are covered appropriately.
