Overview

Peri-implant disease is described as the time bomb of the future with at least 80% of patients with implants suffering from peri-implant mucositis. The complexity of patients seeking implant treatment has increased and with this rising demand the risk of iatrogenic complications also increases necessitating careful planning to prevent complications.

This two-day blended training course will provide a step-by-step approach to understanding, preventing, and managing implant complications using the latest technology and evidence-based strategies.

What to Expect:

  • Pre-Course Online Module – Complete a 2.5-hour online theoretical module in the week leading up to the face-to-face session, preparing you with the foundational knowledge you’ll need.
  • Hands-On Workshop – Practice key techniques on pig jaws in a supportive, interactive setting.
  • Expert Guidance – Gain valuable insights and personalized tips from experienced clinicians.
  • Managing Difficult Conversations – Learn how to navigate challenging discussions with patients when an implant is failing.

This interactive and practical course will equip you with the skills and confidence to handle a range of implant cases of varying complexity and deliver better patient outcomes

Delivered by a team of experts led by Ulpee Darbar, this two day blended training course will provide a step wise approach in understanding implant complications, how they can be managed and avoided including the use of latest technology. Prior to the face to face, participants will need to complete the online theoretical 2.5 hour module during the preceding week before attending the face to face session. You will also be given tips on how to have challenging conversations with the patient when the implant is failing.

The course includes a hands-on workshop where participants will have the chance to practice key techniques on pig jaws in a supportive environment. There will be plenty of opportunities for direct interaction with the speakers throughout the day, ensuring you receive personalized guidance and feedback.

At the end of the session the participant should be able to:

  • Describe the structure approach to case assessment when complications arise
  • Discuss when to consider saving or removing an ailing implant
  • Explain the techniques used for managing failing implants including explantation, the use of biologics and soft and hard tissue augmentation during such procedures
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the steps to follow to minimise the risk of complications
  • Explain the importance of communication with the patient

The course fulfils GDC learning outcomes A, B, C
